Ontario Online Gambling Market Celebrates Three-Year Anniversary

The total operators in Ontario’s regulated igaming sector has fallen below 50 (49), while the count of gaming sites in the province stands at 84 – an impressive milestone as the market marks its three-year anniversary today. 

Canadian Gaming: Robust Regulatory Framework

“I think there’s a lot to lend itself to the market here in Ontario,” iGaming Ontario Board Chair Dave Forestell told the audience that morning. “Of course there’s a large population. I think we have a very competitive kind of revenue share tax rate. There’s a huge book of games that are available to players that each of [the licensed sports books] will be able to offer. But also the dynamic capital markets here. I really hope that that becomes a feature of the success of gaming in Ontario going forward.”

$280 Million Generated in February 

By the end of day 17, all gaming sites were completely registered and authorized operators in Ontario. 

Wow, how much has changed since that time! Based on iGO market performance statistics, players placed CAD$1.079 billion in cash bets during that initial month (CAD$43.9 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue). In February of this year, the figure stood at CAD$7.125 billion (CAD$280.1 NAGGR). That month, there were 277,000 player accounts active. In February, the figure reached 1.12 million.
