Powerball Jackpot Hits in Arkansas for Second Time in Less Than 70 Days

In Arkansas, the Powerball jackpot has struck once more. Another fortunate player in Arkansas has struck it rich, following the historic $1.817 billion jackpot won by a single Powerball ticket on December 24.

One ticket sold in the Razorback State matched the six numbers for the lottery's March 2 drawing, according to Powerball. In just 68 days, the two Arkansas Powerball jackpots were won.

The Powerball numbers for March 2 were 2, 17, 18, 38, 62, and 20, which was the red Powerball. There was a 2X Power Play multiplier.

In Arkansas, the winner has the option of receiving a lump sum payment of $118 million or $250.8 million spread over 29 years. Both sums are prior to state and federal taxes.

"We couldn’t be more excited that another jackpot-winning Powerball ticket was sold in Arkansas,” said Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Executive Director Sharon Strong. “We’re always happy to see another player land a life-changing prize, knowing that retailers, students, and Arkansans as a whole will benefit from the win.”

After the federal government taxes its 37% cut and Arkansas claims its 3.9% part, the cash option would total around $69.7 million. After the 30 payments were made, the annuity would total $149.5 million.

Identities of Arkansas Lottery Winners

According to Arkansas law, the winner of a large jackpot, such as Powerball or Mega Millions, has 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their award. Major lottery winners, defined as those who win more than $500,000, are also granted the privilege to stay nameless for three years under a state statute.

“If a lottery winner who wins more than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) requests that his or her records or information filed with the Office of the Arkansas Lottery remain confidential, the records or information filed with the Office of the Arkansas Lottery shall be treated as confidential and are exempt from public disclosure. Records or information filed with the Office of the Arkansas Lottery and treated as confidential shall become public after three (3) years,” the law reads.

The anonymity privilege was exploited by the Powerball prize winner on Christmas Eve. Therefore, it won't be known until late 2028 who would receive the $834.9 million in cash that was cut to $493.5 million after taxes.

The purpose of the Arkansas Lottery's anonymity clause is to protect winners' privacy while they manage their newfound wealth.

The Powerball jackpot was won for the second time this year on March 2. During the drawing on January 21, a player from North Carolina won a prize of $209.3 million.

Acts of Kindness Lead to $1 Million Win

Ryan, a man from Maryland, won a $1 million scratch-off after letting a woman pass him in the Walmart checkout line. Ryan, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims that at the business at 407 George Clauss Boulevard in Severn, he allowed a woman to leap ahead of him.

The woman gave him two $10 scratch-off tickets as a thank you. One of the tickets earned $50, according to Ryan. Ryan made the decision to spend the money on two $25 scratchers for the $1,000,000 crossword from the Maryland Lottery. One of those plays brought in $1 million.

According to Ryan, the funds will cover his upcoming nuptials.
