Death Penalty on Table for Aliante Casino Shooting, Carjacking Suspect

Prosecutors in Clark County are considering the death penalty for a man charged with murdering the son of a former Nevada state senator before leading police on a chaotic, multi-car theft pursuit through Las Vegas. 

Aerion Warmsley, 19, is said to have fatally shot Na’Onche Osborne, 23, at the Aliante Casino during the early morning of March 28. Osborne, shot seven times, was the adopted child of ex-State Senator and former mayoral hopeful Pat Spearman. 

Warmsley is accused of escaping the site in a stolen Mercedes, igniting a high-speed pursuit that resulted in “the widespread devastation of everything,” according to Deputy District Attorney Morgan Lombardo. 

Disorder and Ruin 

Approximately 30 minutes post-shooting, law enforcement arrived at the location of an accident close to Spring Mountain Road and Interstate 15. Officers recognized that the car implicated in the collision was the suspect's Mercedes linked to the Aliante murder. 

Upon receiving reports of an armed car theft, they believed it was their suspect. They located the stolen car in the downtown region by utilizing license plate readers. 

Warmsley left the car at a fast-food restaurant and reportedly carjacked another vehicle at gunpoint, then escaped at speeds exceeding 105 mph while being chased by police and monitored by a helicopter. 

The suspect reportedly crashed into a bus stop at Boulder Highway and Tropicana Avenue, injuring at least two pedestrians, with one in critical condition according to authorities. The pursuit continued after the suspect managed to steal a third vehicle. 

Ultimately, law enforcement crashed the vehicle and apprehended Warmsley at approximately 9 am — five and a half hours after he escaped Aliante. 

28 Crimes 

Prosecutors in Nevada have filed 28 felony charges against Warmsley, which encompass murder with a deadly weapon, several counts of robbery and burglary, kidnapping, coercion, battery, domestic battery, reckless driving causing significant bodily harm, and the obligation to remain at the scene of a crash that results in death or injury. 

He also confronts six federal charges: two charges of carjacking that resulted in serious bodily harm, three charges of displaying a firearm during a violent crime, and one charge of basic carjacking. 

Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal stated that the case is being referred to the death review committee to determine if capital punishment will be sought due to “aggravating factors.” 

Warmsley is scheduled to appear in court again on July 3.
